Patrick Carrigan was born in Brisbane and played his junior rugby league with the Easts Tigers before being signed by the Brisbane Broncos. He was educated at St Joseph's College, Gregory Terrace, where he was School Captain in 2015 and also excelled in rugby union. A UQ Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) graduate, Carrigan rose rapidly through the Broncos' junior pathways, winning back-to-back U20s Player of the Year awards before making his NRL debut in Round 5 of the 2019 season against the Wests Tigers.

Since debuting, Carrigan has developed into one of the premier ball-playing locks in the competition, renowned for his running metres, offloads, high tackle efficiency, and professionalism. He co-captained Brisbane as early as his second season and has since become a key leader in the Broncos' leadership group, helping guide the club to the 2025 NRL Premiership. He made his State of Origin debut for Queensland in 2022, famously winning the Wally Lewis Medal in his maiden series, and has represented Australia at multiple Test matches including the 2021 Rugby League World Cup triumph over Samoa.
