  • Branched-Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs)

Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) are a group of three essential amino acids: leucine, isoleucine, and valine. These amino acids are considered "essential" because the body cannot produce them on its own and must obtain them from the diet. BCAAs help with muscle protein synthesis, energy during exercise, and reduce delayed-onset muscle soreness and fatigue. These essential amino acids can be found in foods like chicken, beef, salmon, and eggs. Ancient civilizations, without the knowledge of BCAAs, still consumed these amino acids through their traditional diets rich in meats and fish.

  • Zinc

Zinc is an essential mineral that plays a crucial role in various physiological processes in the body, including energy metabolism, and muscle repair and growth. Zinc plays a role in the activation of enzymes that facilitate the synthesis of new proteins, including those needed for muscle tissue regeneration. Oysters are one of the richest sources of zinc. Historically, the health benefits of zinc were realized when its deficiency led to issues like stunted growth.

  • Magnesium

Magnesium is an essential mineral and one of the four electrolytes, and is used to maintain proper fluid balance within and around cells. Magnesium deficiency has been associated with muscle cramps and spasms. Adequate magnesium intake may help prevent these issues by supporting proper muscle function. Found in foods like almonds, spinach, and avocados, magnesium has been used since ancient times, when Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) were used for its muscle relaxation and health benefits.

  • Passion Flower

Passion Flower is consumed for its effects on relaxation and stress reduction, which contribute to muscle recovery by reducing stress-induced inflammation and promoting a state of relaxation that supports the body's natural recovery processes. Passion flower is used to support healthy sleep patterns, resulting in better recovery after exercise and enhanced energy levels for subsequent workouts. Native to the Americas, passion flower has been used traditionally by indigenous tribes for its calming effects.

  • Choline

Choline is an essential nutrient that plays a role in various bodily functions, including metabolism, lipid transport, and liver health. Choline is involved in the transport and metabolism of fats in the liver and the emulsification of fats, making them more accessible for breakdown and energy utilization. This supports the body's ability to use stored fat as an energy source, contributing to weight loss, especially when combined with a calorie-controlled diet and exercise. Eggs and meats, foods consumed since ancient times, are rich in choline.

  • Inositol

Inositol is a vitamin-like substance that has a positive impact on insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism, contributing to better blood sugar control. In this way, inositol influences fat metabolism in relation to fat storage and breakdown. Found in foods like citrus fruits and whole grains, inositol has been consumed in traditional diets for millennia.

  • Glutamine

Glutamine or L-Glutamine is an amino acid that the body can synthesize itself, but can be under-produced during periods of intense exercise and stress, so supplementation is important. Glutamine is important for maintaining the integrity of the gastrointestinal tract lining, as well as replenishing glycogen stores in the muscles and liver after a workout, which is essential for sustained energy during subsequent exercise sessions, and muscle recovery. This amino acid is abundant in beef, chicken, and fish. Historically, bone broths, rich in glutamine, were consumed for gut health and recovery.
